Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota Senator

Early Life and Career

Amy Jean Klobuchar was born on May 25, 1960, in Plymouth, Minnesota. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale University and the University of Chicago Law School. After working as a corporate attorney, she was elected to the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners in 1998.

Political Career

In 2006, Klobuchar was elected to the United States Senate, representing Minnesota. She is the first woman to be elected to the Senate from Minnesota and the first woman to represent the state in either chamber of Congress.

As a senator, Klobuchar has focused on issues such as consumer protection, antitrust law, and affordable healthcare. She has been a vocal advocate for net neutrality and has worked to protect the environment. In 2019, she announced her candidacy for President of the United States.

Minnesota's History in the Senate

Minnesota was admitted to the Union on May 11, 1858. As of January 3, 2018, the state has had 44 people serve in the United States Senate. Notable past senators from Minnesota include Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, and Paul Wellstone.
