Scottish National Party Suffers Major Losses in Local Elections

Conservative Party Also Loses Seats, While Far-Right Reform UK Gains Support

Latest Polls Show Narrowing Gap Between Conservative and Labour Parties

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has suffered a significant defeat in the local elections, losing 38 seats to leave them with just nine. The Conservatives also lost seats, winning only 121 compared to 251 in the 2019 election.

In contrast, the far-right party Reform UK, which campaigned on issues such as immigration, has received 14% of the votes so far, but only a small number of seats.

According to senior political writer, the latest polls show a narrow but noticeable narrowing in the gap between the Conservative and Labour parties.

Of the 649 results declared, 300 MPs have been re-elected, 334 successful candidates are becoming MPs for the first time, and 15 are becoming MPs for a second or subsequent time.
