Boston Takes Early Lead in Championship Series

Dallas, TX - June 9, 2024 - The Boston Celtics delivered a dominant performance in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 on Thursday night.

Returning from a calf injury, Kristaps Porzingis led the scoring for the Mavericks with 20 points, including 18 in the first half. However, the Celtics' defense held Dallas in check, limiting them to just 32% shooting from the field.

Boston raced out to a commanding lead in the first half, taking a 15-point advantage into the break. The Celtics maintained their grip on the game throughout the second half, extending their lead to as many as 22 points.

Jayson Tatum led the charge for Boston with 27 points, while Jaylen Brown added 21. Marcus Smart contributed 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists for the Celtics.

The Mavericks will look to bounce back in Game 2 of the series, which takes place in Dallas on Sunday, June 11th.
