Supermarine Spitfire Crash Lands at Deer Park Airport

Vintage Fighter Plane Damaged in Hard Landing

Historic Aircraft Off Runway After Wheel Brake Lockup

A historic World War II-era Supermarine Spitfire fighter plane made a hard landing at the Deer Park Airport on Friday morning, July 7, sustaining substantial damage.

The incident occurred when the plane's wheel brake locked up on landing, causing it to veer off the runway and onto the grass. The pilot managed to bring the aircraft to a stop, but not before it suffered significant damage to its wing, propeller, and engine.

The airport manager, Darold Schultz, said that the plane is a Supermarine 361 Spitfire LFIXe vintage airplane registration N633VS. He confirmed the aircraft sustained substantial damage in the incident.

The pilot was not injured, but the plane remains grounded for inspection and repairs.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident. The cause of the wheel brake lockup is still under investigation.
